A readout of US President Joe Biden’s Call with Prime Minister Yair Lapid of Israel said that they discussed the maritime borders negotiations between Israel and Lebanon.
“The President emphasized the importance of concluding the maritime boundary negotiations between Israel and Lebanon in the coming weeks,” the U.S. statement said.
Lebanon and Israel, whose border is patrolled by the United Nations, have no diplomatic relations.
They resumed maritime border negotiations in 2020 but the process is still ongoing as of yet.
The latest extended call between U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein and Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab denoted seriousness in reaching a solution the soonest and denounced Israeli media reports related to the file as over-optimistic.
As 961News previously reported, Hochstein is intensifying his talks between both sides to reach a unified approach, by this month, and will contact Bou Saab again next week.
