For someone who began her term in Lebanon during a stressful and uncertain time, U.S. Ambassador Dorothy Shea exudes infectious positive vibes.
In the few months since her arrival, she has already been openly criticized by anti-American groups and controversially come under legal scrutiny.
But Ambassador Shea just proved to be unwavering in her support of Lebanon.
It was high time she let the Lebanese know who she really is.
The U.S. Embassy of Beirut released a video captioned “Meet Ambassador Dorothy Shea.”
In the video, she talked about her background and reminded viewers of a better Lebanon- one that she believes in.
“Before I got to Lebanon in March, I heard so many positive things about you,” she said.
She highlighted Lebanon’s diversity, hospitality, resilience, paired with drone shots of the country’s beautiful scenery.
“Since the 1800s, the United States has been a proud and committed partner to the Lebanese people,” she said, sharing through her own words that the West wants to continue strengthening its relationship and supporting Lebanon.
In her best attempt, Shea respectably spoke in Lebanese to say:
“Rest assured that the United States stands beside Lebanon.”
This is a message of hope and also encouragement during a time of despair for the nation.
Lebanon is not itself right now, but it is important to never forget what it really is, and who we really are of people of resilience and virtues.
It is important to note here that Lebanon’s ties with the United States go beyond its 200 years of diplomatic relations.
The U.S. is home to over 1 million Lebanese who are American citizens. While they have pledged allegiance to the United States, their hearts nonetheless beat for Lebanon, aching to see it back on its feet, sovereign and prospering.
