The U.S. and Qatar have agreed to restrict Iran from using a recently unfrozen $6 billion fund.
Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo assured House Democrats that the fund “will remain untouched,” according to sources.
This comes as the U.S. scrutinizes Iran’s support for Hamas, responsible for recent attacks on Israel. Although no direct evidence links Iran to these attacks, it is held accountable for its historical backing of Hamas.
The fund was initially released last month for humanitarian use in a U.S.-Iran prisoner swap.
Under strict U.S. oversight, the fund remains inaccessible to Iran. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby confirmed, “Every cent remains in the Qatari bank.”
