The U.S. film and video distributor Kino Lorber has acquired the North American rights to Lebanese director Mounia Akl’s film “Costa Brava, Lebanon.”

Launched last year in Venice, the film revolves around the Badri family, who escape from the toxic pollution of Beirut by seeking to live in the mountain home they built.

But as the Lebanon waste crisis evolves, a garbage landfill gets built outside their fence.

The film starred Oscar-nominated Lebanese actress and filmmaker Nadine Labaki, and the Palestinian actor Saleh Bakri, as well as Nadia Charbel, Seana Restom, Geana Restom, Liliane Khoury, Francois Nour, Youmna Marwan, and Muhyiddin Al Karra.

The acquisition of “Costa Brava, Lebanon” does not come as a surprise. The film has been a hit. It won numerous prizes and major film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the 65th BFI London Film Festival.

Co-written by Mounia Akl and Clara Roquet, the film was produced by Myriam Sassine and Georges Schoucair from Abbout Productions.
