The United States Embassy in Lebanon invited Lebanese youth to the International Writing Program titled “Between the Lines: Peace and the Writing Experience.”

Between The Lines, 2022, will bring together 30 international and 14 U.S.-based students, aged between 15 and 18, for a two-week intensive summer programming hosted online by the International Writing Program and the University of Iowa.

This year’s version of Between the Lines (BTL) will bring together participants from Lebanon, Afghanistan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Georgia, India, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Russian Federation, and Ukraine.

Candidates must have proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) since programming is conducted in the English language, to be able to participate effectively in the online intercultural exchange.

All programming will include creative writing workshops, world literature seminars, literary readings, and Q&As with visiting authors, youth, and mentor conversation sessions.

During the two-week program, students will take a writing-focused literature seminar in English with their American and international counterparts. They will also participate in a writing workshop with the BTL faculty.

The program will take place between July 15th and July 30th. It will be virtual and free of cost for all participants.

Since 2008, BTL has been hosting young writers at the University of Iowa for a cultural exchange program that focuses on the art and craft of creative writing.
