A federal court in the United States recently unsealed an indictment against Samuel Salman El Reda, a purported high-ranking member of Hezbollah.
The charges are related to his alleged role in the 1994 terrorist attack on a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which resulted in 85 deaths.
El Reda, 58, is accused of coordinating Hezbollah’s operations in South America, Asia, and Lebanon since 1993. Hezbollah is a component of Lebanon’s coalition government.
Despite his current base in Lebanon, El Reda remains elusive. In 2019, the U.S. State Department imposed sanctions on him and offered a $7 million reward for information leading to his capture.
Argentina holds Hezbollah responsible for another attack in 1992 on its Israeli embassy, causing 29 fatalities.
