The U.S. Embassy in Beirut is inviting Lebanese post-graduate academics to apply for the 2023 Study of the United States Institutes for Scholars (SUSI).

The SUSI programs are thorough post-graduate level programs aiming to provide university faculty and other scholars with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of the United States society, culture, and even institutions.

The program’s main objective is to strengthen curricula and the quality of teaching about the US in academic institutions abroad.

SUSI hosts many program themes, including:

  • American Politics and Political Thought;
  • Contemporary American Literature;
  • Journalism and Media;
  • U.S. Culture, Identity, and Society;
  • U.S. Economics and Sustainable Development;
  • U.S. Foreign Policy.

The Study of the United States Institutes for Scholars will take place at several colleges and universities across the United States over 6 weeks, beginning in or after June 2023.

Each institute includes a 4-week academic residency and a study tour to another region in the United States.

The SUSI candidates should be Lebanese or holders of the Special Travel Document for Palestinian Refugees, as well as aged between 30 and 50.

The applicants should also be university-level faculty or professionals from research-focused organizations and holders of a graduate (master’s) degree.

Additionally, the U.S. Government will be paying for all major expenses, including roundtrip airfare, shared accommodation, meals, and health insurance.

Applications are due by Friday, December 2nd, 2022, at 11:59 pm (Beirut time). For more information and to apply, you can click on this link.
