Two days ago,
Saad Hariri announced his resignation
from his post as the Lebanese Prime Minister from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In his speech, Hariri said that the reasons behind his resignation are the external factors that are negatively impacting Lebanon and trying to threaten its safety. He accused Iran of interfering in Lebanon and other Middle Eastern countries. Some believe that Saudi Arabia forced Hariri to resign. To note, the fact that he resigned in Saudi Arabia instead of Lebanon is considered suspicious by many. Some people are even saying that Hariri is detained. So, a website called “Free Saad Hariri” was created. A headline in the middle of the homepage says “Free Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri from the Saudi Arabia Jails!” The website features a time counter that is counting the days since Hariri announced his resignation. It is similar to the electronic time counter on a billboard in Beirut which counts the days since the assassination of the Prime Minister Rafic Hariri. People are reacting to this website differently. Some people consider it satirical; others are calling for the Prime Minister’s freedom. Anyways, we hope that his resignation will not threaten Lebanon’s stability.
