A shocking video, taken from a shop’s security camera in Baalbek, circulated the internet on Wednesday.
From what is visible in the video and the background commentaries, the events of the kidnapping incident went like this:
The woman was taken after getting out of a taxi at Souk Baalbek by two men who were following her in a black car.
The woman did put up a fight with no one from the several people nearby on the street running to help her. People passing by in their cars just watched without even stopping to help.
As much as the kidnapping was shocking, the apathetic attitude of the “witnesses” was unsettling as it’s very unusual in Lebanon where people always feel personally concerned with what happens around them.
The reasons for the kidnapping and the people behind it remained unknown until now when a clarification came from LBCI and the Internal Security Forces (ISF).
Upon investigation, the ISF found out that the kidnapping was related to a family dispute involving two brothers, Ahmed and Moussa A, and Ahmed’s wife Hiba. All three are of Syrian nationality.
The ISF identified the car and arrested the kidnappers, and the wife Hiba was brought in to complete the investigation.
