Lebanon will have the chance to witness a fascinating astronomical event tonight, August 19, as a blue supermoon will illuminate the sky. This supermoon, known as a “seasonal blue moon,” is the third full moon in a season that unusually has four full moons.
While blue moons aren’t as rare as the phrase suggests—occurring about every two to three years—they’re still special. Blue moons won’t appear in shades of blue. It just highlights its size and brightness.
Starting around 8 PM, the moon will appear larger and brighter due to its close proximity to Earth. Although it’s called a “blue moon,” the moon won’t actually appear blue, but it will still be a stunning sight.
This phenomenon is expected to last for three days, giving stargazers plenty of time to enjoy this unique display.
No special equipment is needed to see it but using binoculars will help you appreciate it more.
Last year, Lebanon got to experience a super blue moon which is a rare astronomical event when 2 supermoons occur in the same month and this only happens every few years. Which won’t happen again until roughly 2037.
