Zahle Is Lebanon’s Only UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy!

Zahle is one of the largest regions in Lebanon. Located in the East, it is the capital of the Bekaa Governorate. This city is full of beautiful sceneries, exciting places to visit, and delicious food to try.

This city is celebrated for its specialties. For this reason, Zahle was recognized as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2013.

Known as the “Bride of the Bekaa,” Zahle’s history revolves around its grapes. This city is full of vineyards and is the home of Lebanon’s most famous wineries and arak distilleries.

Zahle celebrates its grapes by organizing the Festival of the Vine every year during which people get to enjoy concerts, art exhibitions, plays, and many more events.

One of this city’s main attraction is the Berdawni promenade. Located along the river, the walk is filled with restaurants and cafes. Nothing beats a nice lunch along the freshness of the river.

These are the delicacies that you must try in Zahle!

Kaak

Mechtah

The mechtah is the signature bread of Zahle. It is enjoyed when it’s straight out of the oven.

Banadoura jabaliyye

For those who live in the mountains know that tomatoes perfectly pair with arak, sumac, and olive oil. Some people also enjoy adding garlic sauce!

Oriental ice cream

The best way to end a day is by eating oriental ice cream. We can all agree that ashta is one of the best flavors!

Arak
