Billboards Are Popping Up Across Lebanon Supporting Official Being Questioned Over Beirut Blast

Apparent supporters of the head of General Security Directorate, Major-General Abbas Ibrahim, have put up billboards to express solidarity with the security chief after he was called in for questioning over the Beirut Port Explosion.

The billboards read slogans such as “With you, O noblest of men” and “Loyal to the General” and are signed by “Fans of Major-General Abbas Ibrahim”.

Last week, the lead investigator in the Beirut blast probe, Judge Tarek Bitar, asked the Interior Minister for permission to question the General Security chief.

In addition to Abbas Ibrahim, Judge Bitar will also interrogate other prominent political and security officials in a daring move similar to that taken by the former Beirut explosion investigator, Judge Fadi Sawan.

As for the Major-General, being linked to a disastrous explosion is not a good look after he emerged as a possible candidate to replace Nabih Berri as Parliament Speaker.
