The government of Iraq has agreed to continue supplying Lebanon’s power plants with fuel for another year, “under the same conditions as before,” according to Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday.
Lebanon signed a deal with Iraq in July 2021 for one million tonnes of fuel in return for services such as medical care for Iraqis.
Lebanon has struggled with an electricity crisis since the civil war, and the crisis has only worsened ever since, and furthermore in recent years.
With the current economic crisis that the country has been battling for the last three years, citizens are receiving less than two hours of the government’s electricity per day.
