A human chain for Lebanon! Such a splendid sight to picture! Just envision every Lebanese, hand in hand, from border to border, in a powerful statement of unity in face of the political elite that continues to scramble and hold on to power amidst the now reported 2.5 million voices calling for their resignation!
Since this morning, Oct 25, a Facebook event has just begun circulating, initiated by three Lebanese citizens: Julie Tegho Bou Nassif, Muriel Abouelrouss and Cyril Bassil, calling for the creation of a “human chain” across the country in solidarity with the protesters across Lebanon.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, October 27, 2019, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The Facebook event page also features the points of meeting as well as the cities along which this human chain will be extended.
Stating under the event “location” South to North Lebanon, the event has since garnered over 3,500 people in attendance, plus 3,000 people interested, and is still increasing in number as we write this.
The creative organizers are calling for 171,000 people to cover the 171KM, which is roughly 1000 persons/km, holding hands and uniting as one as they link the South and the North of Lebanon.
In their words: “The Lebanese Human Chain routing will follow the main coastline from the South to the North. For feasibility and logistical reasons, it’s best to keep it as simple as possible but everyone, people from all regions across Lebanon, is invited to join the main chain and/or branch out into parallel human chains to connect us all!”
“This initiative is as impulsive as this magnificent revolution so your collaboration is greatly appreciated. Together, hand in hand, we can make it happen!
#LebanonHumanChain.”
We join in supporting this amazing initiative and join our voices with the organizers saying: SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER FOR A BETTER LEBANON. ALL UNITED!”
With “point zero” set at Martyrs’ Square, the human chain is set to pass through all coastal cities of Lebanon.
The list of cities and meeting points is being updated on their event page as the day progresses so keep your eyes peeled for new locations and meeting points close to you so you can all join. This is a one-in-a-lifetime event that will go down in history. Don’t miss it to take part in it!
The organizers are working on making a map to circulate for people to make it to the designated locations. For those who will have views on The Lebanese Revolution Human Chain, tag your photos @the961 on Instagram.
