The YASA Association for Traffic Safety reported that there have been 99 traffic accidents in the last three weeks alone, killing 25 people and leaving another 103 injured.
Altogether, 155 people have been killed in traffic accidents in 2022. It is anticipated that this figure will continue to rise if Lebanon’s traffic safety situation remains unresolved.
Just this week Michel Mutran, the Head of the Media Team in the Traffic Management Center (TMC), posted a tweet stating that the rate of car accident victims per capita in Lebanon is the highest in the world.
Mutran stated that Lebanon averages 5 deaths related to car accidents per day, equal to losing 30 people out of every 100,000 to car accidents.
This figure stands at a significantly higher rate than the global average rate of 17.4 victims per 100,000 people.
