Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) leader Gebran Bassil hinted that he might change his mind and join the presidential race, as he lashed out at Lebanese Forces (LF) leader Samir Geagea without specifically naming him.
“We could’ve awaited vacuum, but we thought about the country and the people and offered the biggest concession by not running yet for president, in order not to embarrass anyone or complicate the issue,” Bassil added.
“We are facilitating, but not in order for anyone to underestimate or disregard us. Beware, we might change our mind!” he warned.
He also reiterated that the FPM will not accept a president who doesn’t have popular and parliamentary representation or is not backed by “a parliamentary bloc that is influential at the popular level, specifically in the Christian community.”
“We reject that foreign forces appoint the president,” he added. FPM is allied to Iranian-backed Hezbollah.
