Lebanon recorded 3,098 new coronavirus (COVID-19) infections on Tuesday, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
In its daily report on the outbreak, the Ministry indicated that 62 COVID-19 patients had passed away and 1,967 others had fully recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours.
Of the total 380,036 infections registered in Lebanon so far, 78,994 are active cases, taking into account the 296,237 recoveries and 4,805 fatalities confirmed since the virus was first detected in the country in February 2020.
The total confirmed cases include 2,567 healthcare workers, 13 of whom tested positive between Monday and Tuesday, according to the report.
In the same period, 23,127 tests to detect COVID-19 were administered, namely 19,432 local PCR tests, 2,627 airport PCR tests, and 1,068 antigen tests.
As of the time of writing, 2,191 patients occupy hospital beds across Lebanon, 890 are in critical condition in intensive care units, and 281 are on mechanical ventilation.
Upon the request of the Lebanese authorities, the Chinese government has decided to donate 50,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine to Lebanon to help it fight COVID-19.
On that note, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is expected to arrive in Lebanon soon.
The Lebanese Health Ministry has also authorized the Sputnik V vaccine, which will also arrive in Lebanon this year, for emergency use. In the meantime, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is being rolled out.
On Monday, the Health Ministry had confirmed 1,888 COVID-19 cases and 51 fatalities.
