A major fire erupted Friday night in a pine forest near the village of Baskinta, in the Metn region of Lebanon, spreading Saturday morning and continuing to blaze till today, Tuesday.

The fire was still spreading despite the efforts of the Civil Defense and the army to extinguish it due to the high summer temperature and air direction.

“My heart is with Baskinta,” Lara Hraoui, Miss Lebanon’s 2022 third runner up said in a tweet on the fire in her hometown.

She demanded that “all officials act to find a solution before the disaster becomes irreversible.”

Five teams of the Civil Defense and three military helicopters were mobilized to assist the teams to overcome the fire, as it approached agricultural and residential areas.

The Civil Defense explained that the fire extended between the towns of Baskinta and Bakish in the upper part of the Kessrwan region.

They were finally able to control it on Tuesday and prevent it from spreading to the nearby houses and forests.

The army helicopters are currently cooling down the site to prevent the fire to reignite.
