31 detainees escaped the Internal Security Forces (ISF) prison in Adlieh on Sunday by sawing through a window.
According to a judicial official, the inmates broke out of the facility by smuggling in a saw, which they used to break down a window.
The escapees are comprised of Lebanese, Syrians, Palestinians, and other foreign groups.
Security and army personnel were positioned in the area of the detention center, according to an AFP correspondent.
“Immediate orders were given to arrest them and investigations are underway,” said the ISF in a statement.
The country’s prisons are in very poor conditions, especially amidst the deteriorating economic crisis.
