Lebanese University Specialized Master’s Degrees Must Be Now Paid In USD

Lebanese University

The state-run Lebanese University (LU) has decided to dollarize its tuition fees for specialized master’s degrees in the Engineering faculty. The dollarization won’t apply to other majors, for now.

This was confirmed by the Dean of the Lebanese University’s Faculty of Engineering, Rafic Younis, to local news and he added that the tuition can be paid in Lebanese Lira at the Lebanese Central Bank’s “Sayrafa” rate.

Younis also stated that the tuition fees for the first years of engineering didn’t change and stressed that the specialized degrees are optional and for one year only.

This decision comes in an attempt to secure additional income to increase the university’s productivity, after being heavily affected by the economic crisis.

The circular was posted on the faculty’s website and shared on Twitter.

In October 2021, the Lebanese University (LU) collected tuition fees from international students in “fresh” dollars or at the “Sayrafa” rate. Lebanese along with Syrian and Palestinian students residing in Lebanon were exempted from that decision.

Other universities, like the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Lebanese American University (LAU), have announced the dollarization of their tuition fees for the academic year of 2022-2023.
