Security forces in Lebanon have arrested the parents of a baby who was found dead on the side of the road in the coastal town of Khalde.

Immediately after the baby’s body was discovered on Saturday, a patrol from the Internal Security Forces’ (ISF) Aramoun platoon launched an investigation into the incident, and the body was transported to a public hospital in the area, the ISF said in a statement on Tuesday.

The investigations revealed that the baby was born in a hospital in the southern suburbs of Beirut on the same day he was found dead.

Eventually, the identity of the mother was determined. 23-year-old Syrian national “M.S.” was subsequently arrested.

Security forces arrested the father, 28-year-old Syrian national “M.K.” shortly afterward in Bchamoun, Mount Lebanon.

Upon their interrogation, the detained parents admitted to having thrown the baby away because of him being the result of an “illegitimate relationship” between them, the ISF’s statement said.

Another crime involving an infant in Lebanon was revealed last week when the mother of a 7-month-old baby was arrested for abusing and attempting to choke him multiple times.
