A man armed with a pistol entered the Bankmed in Nabatiyeh, Lebanon, and held the employees hostage.
The gunman was identified as 55-year-old Yahya Ali Badr El-Din. He owns a supermarket in Nabatiyeh.
He is demanding the reported $150,000 he has locked in his bank account and threatened to kill himself if he didn’t get it.
This is one of a series of incidents taking place this past month where Lebanese are storming banks to force them into withdrawing their deposits trapped by unofficial capital controls since 2019.
