On Wednesday morning, the Ministry of Energy and Water just increased the price of fuel in Lebanon, with the price of the USD floating around 32,400 L.L. The increase is due to the recent decision that Lebanon will now pay 30% of fuel in fresh dollars. This is the 2nd time this week that fuel prices were changed in Lebanon. Following the release of the new grid for fuel prices on Tuesday, local news reported that the increase in prices was due to the Central Bank’s decision to increase the exchange rate for fuel prices. Fuel prices will now be priced at 70% at the Sayrafa rate (around 26,200 LL) and 30% at the Black Market Rate (around 32,250 LL). On Tuesday, the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Dorothy Shea, announced in a statement that the United States will provide Lebanon with an aid of $29.5 million. The aid comes as part of the United States initiative to help face the global food crisis with government funding of $2.76 billion through USAID. On Tuesday, Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health announced in a statement that it has received a third batch of aid from Qatar. The first two batches of around 991,000 liters of fuel were received in July via the Qatar Fund for Development. On Monday, Caretaker Minister of Economy, Amin Salam, expressed his support for a gradual raise in the customs exchange rate. On Monday, the representative of the fuel distributors in Lebanon, Fadi Abou Shakra, denied through Annahar a fuel crisis despite the resurgence of queues. After receiving intel on a stolen Kia Cerato in the Faara Valley on Sunday, a unit was sent to the area.
