On Friday, the transportation allowance for the private sector in Lebanon increased from 65,000 LBP to 95,000 LBP per working day. The decision was made official after President Michel Aoun signed the decree 9849 along with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Caretaker Minister of Labor Moustafa Bayram. The US embassy in Lebanon announced the launch of 35 energy projects that will provide power to 17 Lebanese villages. “Hand in hand, let’s re-light 17 Lebanese villages through INARA in addition to 35 green energy projects that will reduce the dependence on fossil fuel and lessen environmental pollution damage.” On August 5th, Rechmaya Hydropower Plant and Penstock was announced as the first station to be rehabilitated by INARA. On Friday, the Lebanese Army announced that it has received the first batch of aid from Qatar. In July, Qatar pledged to help the Lebanese Army with $60 million to cover the soldiers’ salaries and basic needs. On Wednesday, Lebanon’s Vehicle Registration Center opened for the first time in two months due to the public sector strike. A large crowd was present to clear their transactions and, according to Annahar, employees were scheduled to extend their working hours in order to complete as much work as possible. On Monday, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced in a tweet that they were able to arrest 4 of the 31 escapees who broke out from prison in Adlieh on Sunday. “Through investigation and monitoring, four prisoners who escaped from the detention center under the bridge near the Beirut Justice Palace were arrested.” On Sunday, 31 prisoners escaped the ISF prison by using a smuggled saw to break down a window.
