Cleanup of the trash on the Keserwan shore started

This week, the Lebanese people woke up to a powerful storm that swept the trash from the landfill in Bourj Hammoud to the coast of Keserwan. Prime Minister Saad Hariri requested the beach to be cleaned after images and videos of the trash went viral on social media yesterday. The High Relief Committee started the cleanup of the Keserwan shore at the PM's orders. Yesterday's incident proves that Lebanon needs a waste management strategy to end the garbage crisis. A few days ago, Human Rights Watch (HRW)

started a petition

to ask the Lebanese Parliament and Cabinet to develop a waste management plan that will end the open burning of waste in Lebanon. The waste management strategy should “comply with environmental and public health best practices,” and meet international standards. The garbage crisis in Lebanon is affecting the environment and our well-being. Sign the petition
