Mount of Lebanon's court of appeal decriminalizes homosexuality

The Penal Appeal Court in Mount Lebanon headed by Judge Randa Kfoury ruled that homosexuality is not a crime on July 12. This decision supports the ruling of Judge Rabih Maalouf (January 26, 2017) which prevents the prosecution of people who violate Penal Code Article 534. Six days after Judge Maalouf's ruling, the State Prosecution of Appeals requested to reverse the decision.

This article prohibits sexual intercourse against the order of nature. So, it makes physical relations between two people of the same sex illegal. Those who break the law could spend up to one year in prison. This verdict represents a milestone in judicial action considering its procedural history. You can read the full ruling
