A video circulating online, posted on Youtube through Lebanon Online depicts a beautiful short film about Lebanon in 2050 in the post-revolution period. Starring television personality and anchor Wissam Breidy of MTV, along with a group of young kids, the highlight of the video is the final shot that features Alaa Abou Fakhr's son, Omar Abou Fakhr.
Abou Fakhr lost his father Alaa earlier last month in an altercation that took place during the Lebanese Revolution which began across Lebanon on October 17, 2019. In what was depicted as "an accident" Alaa Abou Fakher became a Martyr of the revolution, and his family a symbol of every Lebanese family's pain.
On the 27th day of the nationwide anti-government protests, Alaa Abou Fakhr was shot in the head and killed reportedly by a member of the Lebanese Army in the Khaldeh region of Lebanon.
No official reports or developments on this have been made public since his death and since the arrest of 1st Adjutant Charbel Ajeil for his alleged involvement in the killing, according to The Daily Star's report.
The 38-year old father was killed in front of his family and young son when a physical altercation ensued between protesters and the Lebanese Army, in which four shots were fired into the air in an attempt to disperse the protesters and break up the fights.
His son Omar has become a symbol of the revolution in his own right - as the face of every young person who wants to grow up and stay in a Lebanon that reflects their true aspirations, dreams, and values.
In this Holiday season, we wish everyone a safe, agreeable and beautiful time with the people that matter the most to them. Omar and his family are a painful reminder that not everyone will get to do this year.
Don't miss the short film created and directed by Elio El Chayeb, of Lebanon in 2050 where Omar appears as both an adult and a child; it's empowering, touching, and inspiring:
El Chayeb also created and directed a sequel to this short film, called "Loubnan Baddo Nabad", which you can also watch on Youtube.
