United Arab Emirates to Send Winter Aid to Lebanon

The Emirates just launched a fundraising campaign to help the poor face the cold in various countries of the region, including Lebanon.

On December 16, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Lebanon announced that His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared that the UAE has launched a campaign “Winter Clothing” to help with the suffering of Lebanese affected by the cold in Lebanon.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the representative of the ruler in the Al Dhafra region of UAE.  He is also the president of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority.

He is reportedly focusing on providing urgent assistance to affected people. This initiative will help 100 thousand Lebanese, especially those in the mountain regions where the temperature drops.

The campaign is within the framework of the UAE’s contribution to strengthening international efforts. It aims to alleviate the suffering of those affected by natural disasters and crises in various countries with ambitions to improve their conditions.

Dr. Muhammad Atiq Al-Falahi, the Secretary-General of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, stated that winter assistance amounting to 2 million and 210 thousand Dirhams (about $600,000) will go to Bekaa, Arsal, Akkar, North, Mount Lebanon, and Sidon camps.

This assistance will include heating devices, medical and relief assistance, blankets, heavy clothing, food parcels, and children's supplies, in addition to providing medicines and medical supplies, for those living in the mountain areas.

This will be carried out by the Humanitarian and Development Affairs Attaché at the Emirates Embassy in Beirut in cooperation with the Relief and Humanitarian Aid Authority at Dar Al Fatwa.

The Relief and Humanitarian Aid Authority is one of Dar Al Fatwa institutions. It specializes in relief operations and extending assistance to the poor and needy.

According to its website, it is committed to respecting human rights and the interests of others without exception and without racial, ideological, sexual, class, political, social or any form of discrimination.

With all that Lebanon is going through, all the great initiatives that Lebanese all over Lebanon and out of Lebanon are doing to stand by each other, humanitarian help is always welcomed.
